Happy Easter from the Doggies!

We've been roadtripping all weekend with crazy doggies in tow. It's been filled with a lot of car sickness, but they had a good time with a big backyard to run in and Drake to play with. Hope you all are having a wonderful Easter weekend!

Christmas 2011

We had a good time in Fayetteville back over Christmas. Kim was back from Austria (whew! and yippee!), and Macy got to meet Drake. The dogs just had a ball!

Happy One Month with Us, Macy!

(I’m about 12 days late on this!)

The past month has completely gotten away from us between the dogs and the Christmas hustle and bustle. It’s hard to believe we’ve already had Macy for a month! Since I’ve been bad about blogging about her, I’ll get you up to speed -

Macy’s kennel cough was a total mess for about 4-5 days after we got her. She was throwing up EVERYWHERE. About the 4th day we had her, she threw up over a dozen times just in the time it took for us to get ready for work. Definitely not the best way to start things out, especially mixed with her not being house-broken. Within a week and a half, she was at the vet one all day because she decided to jump up on the kitchen counter and eat 5 of my raw biscuits that were waiting to go in the oven. Let’s just say that dough can rise in the stomach, and I was a little stressed out! Thankfully, it turned out to be nothing. It has since been a whirlwind of two energetic dogs in the house. Macy and Lily play together great (minus a few rare fights, which we’re still trying to figure out and get over), and Macy loves rawhides and she loves to take Lily’s rawhide when she walks away from it (Lily doesn’t seem to mind!). She’s pretty quiet for the most part. For the longest time, we couldn’t even really get her to smile and she seemed sad, but I think we’re over most of that now. She does get carsick a lot (Christmas was not fun when she threw up within 20 minutes all over her part of the backseat!), and she has some separation anxiety issues when we leave her in her crate (to the point that she escaped from it Christmas eve!). We’re still working through that, but other than those issues, things are going great. Both of them started doggie training classes two weeks ago, and have picked up quite a bit. Now I’m just stressed about boarding her at the vet when we’re gone in a few days – hopefully she can get through without barking all night long!

Here are a few new photos – more to come soon!

We went there...

We brought home Macy from the animal shelter yesterday. We've been casually looking for a second dog for about a month now, and actually went to look at a border collie yesterday, but Macy's little melt-your-heart eyes just had me smitten. She's about one year, a shepherd mix (who can say no to shepherds?!), a little bigger than Lily, and quite the girly-girl. We know she was owned (and apparently she slept on the bed - we learned that quickly after she jumped up twice and got all comfortable!), but not much more than that. After we interacted with her for awhile outside, we went home and brought Lily to the shelter. No growling, just sniffing and curiosity. Much better than a lot of other dogs upon first meeting.

Macy has kennel cough right now, so we're trying to keep her calm and trying to get her to eat a little (she's thin as can be!). Lily has had a couple of territory issues with her inside the house, resulting in some fights, but we're keeping an eye on them and they are so far really good outside by themselves.

Eric's been good about introducing them the right way (we stood outside in the rain last night for 20 minutes in the backyard, too!), and making sure we don't show favor to one over the other (although, he's been getting on to me when I try and cuddle with little Mace with Lily around ;). We're crossing our fingers that things continue to get better and work out!

Never Doubt a Lily Dog...

...Because she'll just be capable of doing stuff like this:

It was a little cooler today so I put Lily's bed outside on the porch in her doghouse (thankfully, her old, getting-kinda-gross bed) since we're still waiting on our porch heater to get here. That is what we come home to. Bye bye bed. And faucet insulator caps. And foam piping on the air conditioner (for the 2nd time with a 2nd fence around it).

You can't get mad at the girl because what else is she supposed to do while we're gone 10 hours for 5 days out of the week? Oh, if only she knew how many thousands of dollars we've already spent on things for her... *sigh*

Lillian's First Halloween

We had one rotten dog on our hands this weekend... tearing up the porch (again), pinning down and injuring a poor bird, misbehaving for professional photos, and going after the air conditioner hose (again). It definitely reinforced that we need to get on training classes ASAP, and that she's not thankful for what she has. ;) Spoiled little thing. And now we move on to shopping for heaters for the porch for her... the $$ spending never ends on this thing. I guess we'd better get used to it!

For Halloween, I got her the traditional pumpkin costume. She hated it - she kept trying to shake out of it. Oh well, at least we tried! Right now, she's running around and whining every time we have to shut her in the office to pass out candy.

But we sure do still love her!

September in Bulletpoints

  • Lily dog has gotten spoiled big time... to the point where we let her up on the couch with us. She's also been super rotten when we try and trim her nails...after multiple attempts and a trip to PetSmart, we've had to resort to taking her to the vet to get her sedated to trim those super sharp things.

  •  Daddy-O celebrated his 55th birthday the other day and we had a great time with him and Mom in Columbia last weekend. His gift from us was a set of old Busch Stadium seats that I lucked out on at an antique store...something we wanted to get him when the stadium originally closed but they were out of.

  •  I finally got around to finishing our dresser (after painting it gray, navy, and back and forth for months). The rest of our bedroom still has a lot of work to be done, but it's getting there.

  •  Our new sunroom went under construction this week and should be done Monday or Tuesday! Lily has been put in her crate all week so I'm sure she'll be glad to have her domain (and a nice covered area) back. Hopefully she doesn't decide to chew on furniture and walls when she gets bored during the day!

So there's a quick recap of the whirlwind month of September...we just can't keep up with work, house, and blogging!

Lily Update

I'm in Arkansas for several days seeing family, and I'm missing this little girl! Here are a few videos from the past few weeks.

We bought a tacky-looking lion from an antique store last weekend, and knowing how Lily will typically go nuts at anything animal-related (she went crazy when she saw a poster of two dogs at the vet), I figured she'd do the same when she saw the lion. Unfortunately, she disappointed us there, but it was worth a shot!

And here's a snippet of  Lily's second trip to the dog park:

Lily's First Trip to the Dog Park

We took Lily to the dog park for the first time last weekend. We were a little nervous at first, knowing how she tends to run after and almost attack other dogs at first sight, but she did great and absolutely loved it! She got out a lot of energy by playing and swiming...boy can she swim, too... We're looking forward to going back this weekend.

Soaking wet dog...thank goodness for the car hamock!

Lily & The Roomba

Thought I would share these funny videos for a little laugh on your Monday. We purchased a Roomba a few weeks ago (Woot.com will occasionally run deals on them) and it has to be one of the best purchases we've made - Lily doesn't know what to think of it yet though! No more vacuuming 4+ times a week for me. It's definitely been put to use a lot the past few days - Lily has had a tapeworm so we've been extra careful to make sure everything is cleaned up so it doesn't continue to get worse. After a trip to the vet today and a dewormer pill, hopefully she'll be free of it soon!

Lily's First Two Weeks

To make up for the lack of blogging the past two weeks, I've included several photos and videos of what Lily has been up to since we got her. She had quite the eventful first week with us - doggie surgery, her first road trip, and her first time meeting Drake. The poor girl was so excited to see everything out the car window that she got a little car sick 30 minutes into the drive to Fayetteville. After a pit stop and a rawhide though, she was good to go.

We found her a doggie car hammock off of Amazon and it worked great!

She had a good time in Arkansas...we're not so sure if Drake really enjoyed being bugged and followed around though.

They sure did make a mess with the water bowls...

And when we got home we found out that we couldn't even leave for an hour without this...

She got her first bath in her kiddie pool...

And loves to play with Eric's hair and ears...

She hopped in the car one morning as I was getting ready and wouldn't get out...

And she loves to stretch. I call her "yoga dog".

We caught her lounging in our camping chair today.

And after all of her muddy and digging fun, she had her first shower.

More cuteness soon!
