House Progress

We've been making more progress on the house the last few weeks. I'm hoping we can get almost everything fully done and decorated by the end of the summer. Here are some updated shots!

Guest bathroom:

Entryway (soon to include a settee!):

Master bedroom (long way to go! Chairs to reupholster, art to find...):

But I did get this chair reupholstered (you may recognize it as being yellow before):

Living room (now with a Memphis print that I got Eric for Christmas):

We're not making much progress on the porch since little doggies love to chew. I don't know how much longer this bench is going to hold up...

And I should have known better than to put that rug out:

We painted an accent wall in the kitchen today - more photos soon!

And seeds for the garden will be started soon:

This frame will get some pop...

And I just had to leave you with these cuties being so good!

Porch Complete!

The contractors finished our porch enclosure this week, and we are so excited to get things decorated!

Lily apparently didn't appreciate it much because we came home to this (and a torn rug corner) after day 1.

And we added some navy paint last night. More colors to be added soon though.

September in Bulletpoints

  • Lily dog has gotten spoiled big time... to the point where we let her up on the couch with us. She's also been super rotten when we try and trim her nails...after multiple attempts and a trip to PetSmart, we've had to resort to taking her to the vet to get her sedated to trim those super sharp things.

  •  Daddy-O celebrated his 55th birthday the other day and we had a great time with him and Mom in Columbia last weekend. His gift from us was a set of old Busch Stadium seats that I lucked out on at an antique store...something we wanted to get him when the stadium originally closed but they were out of.

  •  I finally got around to finishing our dresser (after painting it gray, navy, and back and forth for months). The rest of our bedroom still has a lot of work to be done, but it's getting there.

  •  Our new sunroom went under construction this week and should be done Monday or Tuesday! Lily has been put in her crate all week so I'm sure she'll be glad to have her domain (and a nice covered area) back. Hopefully she doesn't decide to chew on furniture and walls when she gets bored during the day!

So there's a quick recap of the whirlwind month of September...we just can't keep up with work, house, and blogging!

Life Lately

So, I've been writing posts in my head the last few weeks, but just haven't had the motivation to write them out when I've been at my computer! I'll try and get there tonight, I promise.

I'm still in settling mode that's for sure {I know Eric could kind of care less about that stuff ;)}. And that's a project, let me tell you...well, at least when you're OCD like me. I'm trying to still get things organized and put away, purge, decorate, etc. It's amazing how much stuff we still have after 6+ trips to Goodwill since packing to move...ok, so maybe my house purchases aren't helping the matter, but I still feel like we need to purge! purge! purge! Our guest room has become the overflow room for stuff that maybe I'll muster up the motivation to organize for a garage sale.

I've always looked forward to "back to school time" since it was always a fresh slate to get organized with everything. I still feel the need to do so every August now even being out of school. This year I kicked off the "school year" with a new planner in hopes to tackle some goals a little better (this week isn't proving to be working well though because I'm just so tired and worn out after work!). I've heard a lot of talk about these Erin Condren Life Planners, so I ordered one for myself a few weeks ago. I've only had it a few days, so I'll have to get back to you on how I end up liking it.

I've also been trying to organize household stuff a little more, too. (This is where my OCD mentality REALLY comes out) I've started on a home management binder (goal is to have it complete by the end of the week) with everything from general information/emergency info, Lily's information, chore and cleaning schedules, meal planning (something we've been TERRIBLE at lately) budget and bills, shopping lists, you name it. I'll share some more of that soon. We've also been really bad about sticking with a good budget since we've moved in (hello, furniture purchases!), so our goal for September is to get back on the Dave Ramsey plan, complete with our cash envelopes again. And, to encourage that a little more, I even sewed these cute little fabric envelopes -

Trying to get a little ahead on toiletry purchases and certain foods has also been a goal, too (Eric sure goes through cereal and deodorant like lightning!) I'm learning a little more here and there about couponing, and taking advantage of sales with coupon matches as much as possible. (No, you don't need to turn me into TLC...I'm not that bad and crazy!) I haven't been too great about keeping track of all the numbers, but I know we're saving a little more here and there by stocking up on sales. We're in fairly good shape now - enough shampoo and body wash to last us awhile!

And speaking of small stockpiles, I've also been making sure our emergency kits are updated. All the crazy natural disasters that have happened this year scare the bageebies out of me (A friend who is now in NC texted me today saying "I just lived through your worst nightmare!" Ha! - Yeah, I'm paranoid about earthquakes, and I was definitely curled up in the closet several nights this year because of storms and torrential rains pounding on our bedroom windows). I ordered some emergency kits off of Amazon back in the spring, and then made a few of our own to fill in some of the gaps. (Yeah, I think my mom thought I was a little crazy when I shipped them a large box full during tornado season!) I pray we never have to use them, but it doesn't hurt to have them around.
We've done a few little projects here and there around the house. We cleaned out the entire garage a few weekends ago and Eric re-hung our pegboard.

I'm also attempting round 2 of container gardening this year. I doubt I'll have much luck, but we'll see.

Lily has also been her usual energetic self. I've been getting up at 5:30 AM three days a week to go walk/jog around the neighborhood, and she's always up and pulling me the entire way. I wish I were that much of a morning person. Here are a few cute photos from her recently:

Spoiled dog, let me tell you.

And, lastly for tonight (but not least!) this girl {my sister} is away in Ireland right now. Off to Austria on Sunday to spend the rest of the semester! It was a bittersweet goodbye when I left Arkansas a few weeks ago, but I know she's going to have a blast.

More updates soon!

Living Room Progress

It's getting there...slowly. Eric is pressuring me to get some art on the walls and some color in the room though. ;)

Lily & The Roomba

Thought I would share these funny videos for a little laugh on your Monday. We purchased a Roomba a few weeks ago (Woot.com will occasionally run deals on them) and it has to be one of the best purchases we've made - Lily doesn't know what to think of it yet though! No more vacuuming 4+ times a week for me. It's definitely been put to use a lot the past few days - Lily has had a tapeworm so we've been extra careful to make sure everything is cleaned up so it doesn't continue to get worse. After a trip to the vet today and a dewormer pill, hopefully she'll be free of it soon!

Little Updates

Today was exciting with house-related things. We had our "new" china hutch delivered thanks to our family in Jefferson City. This antique Bernhardt ($$$!) piece was in one of the houses Judy was clearing out for estate sales. Can't wait to get our wedding china into it (it's still sitting in fully-packed boxes at my parents' house!)

We also got our new bedding. I couldn't get a good photo tonight because our bed is a mess (didn't have time to make it this morning!), but here's an idea...

It's been a slow process, but it's starting to come together a little more!

P.S. - our blog WILL get a makeover soon...I need to find the time to finish the top header!

We're back!

Apparently 2011 is my year of slacking on blogging (or the year that we got SUPER busy!). I'm really, really going to try and pick it back up, I promise! I've been meaning to redesign and revive it for months now...(as you can see, the header still has yet to be finished, and I still have more to add to the sidebar). But, since SO MUCH has happened in the past few months (hello, HOUSE!), I figured I'd try and get back into the swing of things to update family. No promises, but I'll try to at least blog a couple of times a week!

So, to give you the Cliffs Notes version of the past few months...

We bought a house...

Eric graduated with his MHA...

Eric started his new job and started getting up at 5 AM...
And our lives have become completely consumed by full-time jobs, sometimes pushing 12 hour days (for Eric)...

We've been in our house a little over a month now and it's taken me that long to get things unpacked, cleaned, sorted out (I've been taking trunkloads to Goodwill like there's no tomorrow), and organized, and let me tell you, nights sure go by quick when you try to do that! I'm almost to the point of getting into a normal routine after work. And it's to the point now where I feel like I can finally start decorating since things are put away. Here are a few early photos...

Dining area (thanks Mom for the chairs!!!)

Things have come a little ways since then, but we still have a long way to go to get things all prettied up! Hopefully we can make some progress between all the weekends we are on the road this summer. More to come soon!
